Listen to one of the all time melodies from the “IR-SPB-SJ” combo for the Tamil Film “Panneer Pushpangal” (1981) which introduced actors Suresh & Shanti Krishna as hero and heroine in TFM. It is all about teenage love in school. Movie directed by combo of Santhana Bharathi (his first movie) & Vasu. A decent love story with Pratap Pothan also playing a major role as a teacher and Venniraadai Murthy the comedy bit. This film has three other good songs as well.
This song is a tantalizing one indeed with lot of enchanting chorus and subtle humming. Music by our IR is rich again with guitar and violins mesmerizing to a great extent.
Lyrics ? by GangaiAmaran. He has given one of his best lyrics here. In fact all songs for the movie have been penned by him.
Our SPB has rendered this very delicately indeed combining with softness reflecting the nature of teenage love. SJ does a great improvisation when she takes off with “Poonthalir aada ….” after the first charanam. Her style of rendering of these lines is quite different from that of our SPB’s and maybe here she has scored a point more than him. She has sung in a very sweet voice. No other combo would have done full justice to this song.
